Flame of the Forest
Butea monosperma · Fabaceae
A deciduous tree whose bright orange flowers are used to treat skin disorders and manage heat.
Known as the 'Flame of the Forest' because its canopy turns entirely orange-red when it blooms during the peak of summer. The flowers are rich in sulfur and are used to prepare natural dyes and cooling medicines. It is considered sacred and associated with Agni, the god of fire.
Trifoliate large leaves and bright orange, parrot-beak shaped flowers in dense racemes.
