Purslane
Portulaca oleracea · Portulacaceae
Succulent wild green - the richest plant source of omega-3 fats, used traditionally as a cooling leaf vegetable.
Purslane is a prostrate succulent annual regarded as a weed and prized green at once. Ayurvedic literature (Lonika) describes it as a cooling, slightly salty-sour leaf used for urinary irritation and heat disorders. It is the highest known plant source of alpha-linolenic acid and is eaten fresh or cooked across India, the Mediterranean and China.
Smooth, fleshy prostrate succulent with reddish branching stems, wedge-shaped spoon-like fleshy leaves, small yellow flowers that open in sunshine, and tiny seeds in capsular fruits.
